How does a natural flea treatment differ to a chemical one?

Chemical flea spot-ons work by using pesticide chemicals such as fipronol or imidaclopid that over-stimulate the nervous system of fleas and ticks killing them, quickly.

Whereas natural treatments use ingredients such as quassia bark, acetic acid, catnip, certain essential oils, neem oil etc. that create an inhospitable environment on your pet on which fleas and ticks can not thrive, therefore deterring and repelling them.

Natural treatments do take a bit longer to work and require more frequent application, however you remain safe in the knowledge that you are not administering chemicals into your pet's bloodstream.

Why do you use essential oils in your flea treatments when many are proven to be unsafe for pets?

Our Free From Fleas treatments contain a carefully selected, small amount of essential oils. These, however, are not the main active ingredients in the product, which are in fact quassia bark, catnip extract, rosemary and a small amount of acetic acid. The essential oils are added to our formula because they are proven to elevate the effectiveness of the main ingredients in repelling fleas naturally - but it only takes a tiny amount of essential oil to improve the effectiveness.

We only ever choose essential oils that are safe for pets and we also tailor the essential oil to the animal - which is why we use cedarwood in our cat spot-on in place of lemongrass which is what we use in our dog spot-on treatments.

Can you explain the flea lifecycle?

95% of fleas live in and around the house and not on your pet, so when there is a flea infestation and you wish to solve it naturally, it requires a quite intense approach.

To treat your infested pet we would advise shampooing, or dry shampooing at least once (but not more than twice) a week, treating for a minimum of 7 days with a spot-on and, when no fleas are present then, preventatively treating once a week. At the same time you need to ensure that you wash all bedding and toys, hoover every day during the infestation and if possible also spray soft furnishings and furniture with a household flea spray.

You have to beat the cycle otherwise the fleas will return.

Why doesn't the full glass tube fill up when I squeeze the pipette?

(This question only applies to our 100ml bottles of Free From Fleas Spot on / Joint Guru / Calm Guru)

The rubber pipette bulb you squeeze is the correct dose, not the glass tube (as tube length can vary depending on bottle dimensions)

So, when you squeeze the bulb, 1ml will be drawn up into the tube, the correct amount with which to dose your pet.

I have both dogs and cats, should I be worried about the cat coming into contact with the dog spot-on treatment?

Our Free From Fleas spot-on for dogs contains a very small amount of lemongrass essential oil, which is safe around all of your pets. If, however, you are worried about your feline friend getting in contact with the dog treatment, we would suggest using Free From Fleas spot-on for cats on your dog as well. It does not contain lemongrass essential oil, but instead contains cedarwood. This blend of herbal infusions and essential oils is equally effective in deterring fleas on dogs, but tailored to be safe for regular use on cats.

Can I use your flea spot-on for 7 week old kittens/puppies?

Our recommended age to start using preventative flea spot-on drops is 12 weeks old, however if your kittens/puppies have fleas that need treating we would not recommend using the full dose as they are still so young. Instead we would recommend administering half a dose of the drops once per week.

Can you give your natural remedies to a pet that has seizures?

Our products are an ideal alternative to chemical treatments for pets who suffer from seizures and epilepsy because of their milder natural ingredients.

Being natural they are much less likely to cause or increase seizures which are often triggered by the chemicals found in pharmaceutical pet products.

I bought the flea drops for cats by accident, can I use them on my dog?

It’s absolutely fine to use the cat spot on treatment on your dog. It is just as effective on dogs of any size as the dog spot on we make, it just has cedarwood in place of lemongrass as one of the flea repelling ingredients because cats can be quite sensitive to lemongrass.

(Joint Guru / Tummy Guru / Plaque Guru /Salmon Oil can also be shared between dogs and cats. Only the dose varies - please check the relevant product page for the correct dosage for each type of pet).

For how long can I give the maximum 4x 100ml doses of Joint Guru to my pet?

We find that most pets do not require the maximum 4 doses per day for very long if they are in acute pain.

We would recommend reducing the dose down to one per day after a couple of days.

If your pet then starts to show signs of stiffness or reduced mobility you can then add a 2nd dose per day and see if this improves.

We find that this is more than enough for most ailments and works well for most pets. The main thing is to observe your pets mobility and adjust accordingly.

What do you mean pet-friendly mood enhancing fragrances?

It sometimes gets forgotten that fragrance and essential oils used in candles and wax melts (of all price brackets) can be harmful or disturbing to our pets.

Therefore we developed a collection of fragrances to treat both you and your pet. Not only do they smell amazing, but through careful research and development, the ingredients they contain are also tailored to enhance both the mood of you and your pet.

Can I use any of your dry shampoos on my cat?

It's absolutely fine to use any of our dry shampoos on your cat as well as your dog.

Is your packaging sustainable?

Where possible we have used aluminium bottles and tins so that our packaging is not only recyclable, but also refillable or reuseable. All of our labels are easily removable too.

However, unfortunately it is not always possible to use aluminium and still have a competitively priced product. In this instance we use recyclable pouches and black plastic bottles.

Most black plastic bottles are undetectable by the scanners at recycling plants and so, in fact, end up in landfill. Ours, however, use a special dye in the plastic that ensures they are detected and therefore recycled.
